Abstract

The theme of the Political Parties and Electoral Funding is common in Brazilian political debate. It discusses the need for reform in the structure of electoral and party machine financing, in the face of the frequent scandals involving elected representatives and irregular large sums of money. However, institutional efforts in this direction are still incipient. The academic production in Political Science is not absent from this debate. Nevertheless, most studies on this topic are still leaning over the general elections financing data. Therefore, it's proposed here the addition to the area's studies an analysis of money in municipal elections. The goal of this project is to understand the profile of the contest electoral financing in Campinas Metropolitan Area (CMA), having in mind the data concerning municipal elections in the region in 2012. It's intended to work on the revenue origins and on the expenditure amounts of the candidates for the positions of mayor and city councilmen, in relation to the electoral disputes' competitiveness and the constituencies' greatness in CMA's towns. The results of the analysis will be shown for the region as a unit and for the three groups of towns, defined according to the electorate's size. The methodology will follow the criteria of Descriptive Statistics, in short: data organization and manipulation, results analysis, and composition of a statistical inference report to the complete profile of the financing campaign in CMA.(AU)
