Studies of genetic diversity and structure, mating system, spatial genetic structure and dispersal of pollen and seeds are essential for understanding the evolutionary dynamics of natural populations in tree species, and so adopt appropriate strategies for their conservation genetics, breeding and forestry. Such studies can be efficiently performed using microsatellite markers. Within this context, the objectives of this project are to develop and characterize microsatellite loci for the tree species pollinated by insects Esenbeckia leiocarpa Engl. (Guarantã), from a library constructed for the species. Thus, the study of genetic diversity and structure, breeding system and dispersal of pollen and seeds can be done in some future work. It is intended to develop until 10 to 15 microsatellite loci for the species. The collection of plant material is performed by establishing a square plot in the State Forest Ibicatu-SP, which contains 150 adults. All individuals within the plot will be sampled. This allowed the study of robust intrapopulation spatial genetic structure. As the trees of the species usually occur in this area and species grouped by seed dispersal autocory, it is believed that there is strong spatial genetic structure in the population. (AU)
