Abstract

This project proposes to develop an analysis of the processes by which film productions - both as a fiction and documentary films- made between 1910 and 1950 by explorers and filmmakers Americans and Europeans, created a set of representations of the Amazon as a manifestation of a discursive practice and a policy of construction of otherness. This process was made by a convergence and articulation of the discourses of science, popular culture and practice of representational otherness, manifest in the cinema of the first half of the twentieth century. On the other hand, seeks to deepen the processes of circulation, distribution and consumption of these images and representations beyond the cinema itself, in the context of setting up a modern consumer society, trying to understand the way in which they have established as a set of images central, hegemonic and dominant, and modes of representation of each subject and nature
