Abstract

The use of formal instruments for language and its components´ evaluation - either for clinical or researches - is still underprivileged in Brazil as a reflex of the restricted commercial availability of the instruments adapted and/or constructed to our linguistic cultural, specially, towards pre-school aged children. Therefore, the object of this research is to accomplish the translation and adaptation of the Preschool Language Assessment Instrument, PLAI - 2 second version to Brazilian´s Portuguese. This instrument is used and internationally recognized by speech therapists and professionals who work in the human communication area - and its disturbs - which allows to evaluate important aspects related to the communicative exchange of children aging between three and five years old. The PLAI - 2 is composed by 70 stimulations, equally divided in receptive and expressive language items and foresees two analyses conducts: formal and informal. The formal analyses gives a global and partial estimative based on a patterned score and the informal analyses gives the information related how well the answers and observed behaviors during the evaluation can be adequate. The test will be applied in 354 children with typical language development, from both genders, and chronological ages from three to five years old, which will be divided in three groups, according to the age foreseen on the original version: three, four and five years old. Each group will be formed by 118 children, equally distributed by their gender. The data will be analyzed by descriptive statistics and parametric and non-parametric tests using the R software. (AU)
