Abstract

This research proposes a theoretical study and field to define the political role and, consequently, the social role of communitary journalism through print media on remotes and underserved communities in the city of Bauru. The group being studied is of lower-class voters, with more than 16 years and the intellectual capacity to evaluate and critique the news content they receive, although many people in the group still present socio-cultural traits evident deficient due to low education and living conditions. The research also aims to show how the communication process happens, said horizontal and inclusive, and the differences between this type of journalism and the conventional. We will analyze the journals Jornal do Ferradura and Voz do Nicéia, which circulate bimonthly and the Jornal da Cidade, which 46 years ago is the main source of political information of Bauru. The goal is to see how community newspapers contribute to forming political awareness of communities regarding local issues, which will allow the perception of the importance, or not, of the political news of traditional journalism among residents of peripheral areas.(AU)
