Abstract

The objective of this project is to study subject-verb inversion in interrogative sentences of European Portuguese, in texts of authors born between the sixteenth and nineteenth century. The analysis will be based on 16 syntactically annotated texts, available in the Tycho Brahe Corpus for automatic searches through the computational tool Corpus Search. This study intends to verify if a possible change in the subject-verb order in interrogative sentences is related to the change of inversion observed in affirmative sentences from authors born after the XVIII century (cf. Passion de Sousa, 2004; Galves and Passion de Sousa, 2010; Galves and Gibrail, 2012). (AU)
