Population aging continues to be a prominent global phenomenon. The IBGE (2010), in an analysis of the Brazilian population's life conditions cites that as people age they become more susceptible to developing chronic diseases. The Chronic Renal Insufficiency (CRI) is among the prevalent chronic diseases. Hemodialysis is among the treatments required for this disease, which may alter and impact the quality of life. The main goal of this study is to characterize patients in Hemodialysis treatment as their socio-demographic, economical and clinical aspects, evaluate the health-related quality of life in adults and older adults with the disease and identify related factors. A descriptive and cross-sectional study will be conducted in the Nephrology Clinic of Sao Carlos, where 18 years-old and older CRI diagnosed individuals in Hemodialysis treatment were interviewed and accepted to participate in the study. The instruments used for data collection were: instrument for characterizing the individuals and the Kidney Disease and Quality-of-Life Short-Form (KDQOL-SF). The project was approved by the Ethics Committee of the Universidade Federal de São Carlos (Parecer 085/2012).
