Abstract

The use of geosynthetics in roadway systems has received considerable attention over the past decades. Paving fabrics have been used for the rehabilitation of pavements to reduce the propagation of cracks and to extend pavement life. In addition, the success of this technique depends directly on the understanding of the geotextiles behavior when impregnated with asphalt. In this sense, this study will evaluate different nonwoven geotextiles frequently used in the anti-reflective cracking systems, focusing on permeability reduction. Virgin and impregnated specimens of polyester and polypropylene nonwoven geotextiles will be used. Cationic rapid setting emulsified asphalt (CRS) will be used as an asphalt binder. Tests will be performed according to the specifications of ASTM and ABNT.(AU)
