Abstract

Coffee Berry Borer (CBB) is the most limiting pest of coffee production generating a decrease in production and beverage quality. Besides of his importance as agriculture pest, CBB has special biological characteristics that make it a interesting non-model species.Has a reproductive behaviour that make it highly inbred and a special sex determination system called functional haplodiplody, has micro-evolutive frameworks of insecticide resistance, there is evidence of horizontal transfer of genes with a subsequent adaptative advantage to a particular ecological niche, and there are evidences that CBB can be a cryptic complex of species.A low genetic variability could be indicate a low adaptability and lack of response mechanism to innovative genetic control strategies, taking importance the studies in genomics in order to know the genetic determinants of reproductive behaviour and his relationship with Coffea genus.Transposition elements (TEs) are dynamic entities with important effects in host genome, since affect the genome size and to have a fundamental role in chromosomal integrity, until effects over regulation of gene expresion and function diversification. In this study, the transposition elements of CCB's genome will be (1) annotated and classified in class, order, superfamilily and family and characterized as to abundance, frequency, distribution, structural variability and derivatives sequences inside genome of CBB; and (2) analized functionally in order to identified active elements or domesticated TE-cassettes, as well as, will be characterized the inter-populations variability based on the TEs insertion polymorphism. The characterization of TEs in the CBB genome and his insertion and deterioration patterns can be used like genetic markers that allow to elucidated in a major detail the population structure levels and redefined like unique species or a cryptic complex, and simultaneously, identified endogenous sequences in CBB that could be used like biotechnological tools for new programs of genetic control.
