Abstract

The dietary exposures and eating habits lived in adolescence influence the health status of the adolescent and may remain during adulthood, eventually causing diseases and non-communicable diseases (NCD). The increasing prevalence of overweight and obesity, physical inactivity, and the new eating pattern, with a high energy density of the diet, high intake of total fat and saturated fat, and lack of fiber and micronutrients, appear unfavorable to good health and contribute to NCD development. The effects of different nutrients and food can be better observed when it considered the pattern of the diet. Objectives: To determine the dietary pattern of adolescents living in São Paulo and associate it with the serum concentrations of glucose, insulin and lipid profile, physical activity, nutritional status, measurements of waist and hip circumferences, smoking habits, and alcohol consumption. Methods: This cross-sectional study will be conducted with 400 individuals from 14 to 19 years old. Demographic, socio-economic, anthropometric (weight, height, waist and hip circumferences), biochemical, and food consumption data will be evaluated. Blood collection (12-hour fasting) will be performed to assess glucose, insulin, total cholesterol, triglycerides, LDL-c, HDL-c, and VLDL-c. Factor analysis by main components will be performed for obtaining the standard diet.(AU)
