Abstract

This research project aims to understand the functions that the implementation of the North West Metropolitan Corridor has been playing in promoting accessibility and expanding geographic mobility in the Metropolitan Region of Campinas (RMC). Since this project implies changes in the infrastructural network on, in the services network and in the basic rules that sustain the region's bus systems, it is intended to conduct an analysis that compares the effective uses of territory due this public intervention with the potential uses of territory made possible by the standard model of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT). Being this a parameter of collective transport above tires planning that presents a good viability and high efficiency, this comparison allows that be clean the main political intentions that support the conception and the approval of the Northwest Corridor project, because so many aspects of selectivity in the States's action at the time of chose the fundamental characteristics of the equipment can be identified, such as track, operation mode and technical composition. With this, it is possible to check the implications of this mode of transport planning and manage in the territorial dynamics of the RMC, and possibly of other cities in the country, paying attention to the alternatives that arise and the role that the geographical science can play in the process.
