Abstract

Despite the wide folk use of copaiba oil resin by the Brazilians since the XIX century and several developed studies corroborating many of its ethnopharmacological uses, as well as its production being around 800 tons per year, there is a great need to fully determine the following parameters: phytochemical, pharmacological, toxicological and clinical studies, aiming to guarantee safety, efficacy, and quality, which are mandatory for developing new phytomedicines. In this sense, the goal of this proposal is to undertake a phytochemical study with the oleoresin of Copaifera duckie and to evaluate the antitumor activity (in vitro) of the major secondary metabolites isolated from this natural source, aiming to better understand the use of oleoresin from species of Copaifera by the Brazilian population as antitumoral agents.(AU)
