The main objective of this prospective research at the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) is to gather bibliographical resources to foster our research project in adaptation studies, with a focus on the vector Literature ’ Television. Reflecting about the characteristics of the process of adaptation in the specificity of the format, we will study the series Grande sertão: veredas (1985), an adaptation of Guimarães Rosa's novel. Focalizing the televisual syntax, we will analyze how temporality in the novel is read by the adaptors. Therefore, we will focus on the ways categories as present-present, present-past and present-future are combined in the editing and the rhythm emerging from this combination. Thus, the development of this research project would bring an invaluable contribution to the continuity of the studies being currently held at the São Paulo State University Graduation Programme and will also represent an important step towards further collaborations between both UNESP and UCLA.
