Geopropolis is a resin collected by stingless bee with little description at literature. Recently, its biological properties have been studied by our research group and the antiproliferative was described as promising. As consequence, efforts have been made in order to achieve deep knowledge on chemical composition and further activities of this kind of propolis. Once the antiproliferative activity has shown being a promising field of study and the chemical content is not fully recognized, the aim of this study is to elucidate the chemical composition and the possible molecular targets of geopropolis and its isolate compounds on cancer cell lines, as part of original Ph.D. project (FAPESP #2011/23635-6). Thus, we have established a partnership with National Cancer Institute (Frederick, MD, USA) intending to perform the most advanced methodologies both in chemical structure elucidation and molecular targets in a worldwide reference center. Briefly, it will be used the follow methodologies: a) fractionation and purification of geopropolis and further chemical elucidation of bioactive compounds using nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) experiments, including 1-dimensional experiments 1H and 13C and 2-dimensional experiments COSY, ROESY, HSQC, and HMBC and b) molecularly targeted assays will including p300/HIF-1 binding, MALT-1 protease enzyme inhibition, EpCAM/beta-catenin assay, p38 inhibition and inhibition of protein sumoylation (assays not available in Brazil).
