Abstract

The goal of the traineeship at the CEGOT (Centro de Estudos em Geografia e Ordenamento do Território), located at the dependences of Faculdade de Letras da Universidade de Coimbra (FLUC) is to viabilize the analysis of the results of politics focused in a rural development with territorial approach and family farming support, in particular the Programa de Desenvolvimento Rural (PRODER) and Links Between Actions for the Development of the Rural Economy (LEADER), programs implemented in Portugal and Europe Union, respectively. This study is focused the comparison of the rural development programs focused in the family farming support which are being studied in our mastership dissertation, titled "National Program for Strengthening Family Farming (PRONAF), Food Acqusiticion Program (PAA) and National Program for Sustainable Development of Rural Territories (PRONAT)". The research aims the understanding of the importance of these programs to economic and social reproduction of family farmers, their influence on the producer organization representing entities (associations and agricultural cooperatives) and the role that they have played in defining and implementing projects in Brazil (mainly in the rural area to the northwest of São Paulo State) and in Portugal, especially in the municipality of Penela.
