The aim of the present in vitro study is to evaluate the effect of chlorhexidine (synthetic inhibitor of metalloproteinase), applied before a self-etching adhesive system (Clearfil SE Bond) on microtensile bond strength to superficial and deep dentin. Forty dentin specimens will be divided into two groups according to the dentin depth: deep and superficial. After that, specimens will be divided again according to the solution that will be applied to it (n=10): CLX (2% chlorhexidine) and NT (no treatment). A self-etching adhesive system will be applied according to the manufacture's instruction and composite restorative will be placed on the dentin surface. Dentin-resin blocks will be sectioned into 6-8 beam-shaped specimens (1mm2 area) that will be allocated into two groups, according to the moment of micro tensile bond strength evaluation: 24 hours or after a 6-months period of water storage. Data will be statistically analyzed considering its distribution. If there is the normality of errors distribution and homogeneity of variance, parametric tests will be applied; on the contrary, non-parametric tests will be adopted, both with 5% significance level.
