Abstract

"Tinnitus is considered a symptom and not a disease, in which a person hears a sound without a sound sourcing producing it. Currently, 28 million Brazilians have this symptom. Young adults are a population currently affected by tinnitus due to abusive use of personal stereos, like ipads, iphone, among others. The goal of this work is to characterize the audio logical profile of individuals with tinnitus and to describe the harmful habits practiced by this people. In the present study will be conducted audiometry exams, otoacoustic emissions due to the distortion product, Brainstem Auditory Evoked Potential, tympanometry and audio logical. Will also apply the Tinnitus Handicap Inventory (THI) and a questionnaire on hearing the description of the habits and behavior in relation to exposure to noisy events. Finally, we will measure the noise generated by personal stereos of every individual to make their use in usual volume. Young people of both sexes will be, for a total of 60 young people of which 30 have tinnitus aged 18 to 30 years and another 30 who do not have tinnitus, also aged between 18 to 30 years".
