Abstract

Maize is one of the most important worldwide, besides the food, is based animal feed. Management techniques in maize are needed in order to increase productivity, minimizing costs and environmental impacts. This study will evaluate different cover crops (millet, sun hemp, pea, pearl millet + sun hemp, millet and pigeonpea + fallow), N rates (0, 40, 80 and 120 kg ha-1) with and without seed inoculation with Azospirillum brasilense in maize grown under no-tillage on growth and productivity in the cerrado region. We used a randomized block design in a 6x4x2 factorial, constituting 48 treatments and 4 replicates. The study will be conducted in the experimental area of the Teaching and Research Farm belonging to the Faculty of Engineering - UNESP - Single Island, located in Selvíria - MS. The local soil is like clay oxisol. The average annual rainfall is 1370 mm, the mean annual temperature is 23.5º C and relative humidity between 70 and 80% (annual average). During the experiment will be determined by the following: dry matter and N, P and K accumulated total in cover crops, initial and final population of plants, dry matter production of the shoots, N, P and K in the whole plant, plant height, ear insertion height, stem diameter, ear length, ear diameter, thousand grain weight and grain yield of maize.
