Sinus lift with fresh frozen allograft and mineral bovine bone: tomographic study in humans

Abstract

The use of allograft bone in pre-implant surgery is recognized for presenting some advantages over autogenous graft. Besides avoiding the need of donor sites and postoperative morbidity, time of surgery was reduced and this use does not provides limitations on the volume required to reconstruct the bone defect. The use of auxiliary materials in the maintenance of this type of grafts, as the bovine mineral bone (Bio-Oss ®), a compound able to significantly reduce the resorption of the graft and to maintain the volume to optimize installation of implants, it may have a great importance on the treatment. The aim of the present study is to evaluate tomographically the volumetric behaviour on allografts bones with or without the use of biomaterial Bio-Oss®, grafted in sinus lift techniques in humans. Materials and Methods: On this prospective, randomized and comparative study, it will be operated 30 maxillary sinuses of patients from both genders on Faculty of Dentistry of Ribeirão Preto - USP, which present residual bone ridge with maximum height of 3 mm for reconstruction with inlay particulated allografts previously to implants rehabilitation. The patients will be divided in a) Control Group: fifteen (15) maxillary sinuses will be grafted only with allogenous bone and b) Test Group: fifteen (15) maxillary sinuses to be grafted with an association of allogenous bone and Bio-Oss®, on proportion of 2:1. The computed topographies will be taken at immediate post-operative grafting time and 6 months post-operatively. The tomographical images will be analyzed with Mimics 8.13 version (Materialise - Belgium), to evaluate the volume variance between the different times in the different experimental groups, and the software E-Film will be used to analyze the difference of bone density.
