Abstract

The conversion of natural ecosystems in urban areas and farmlands is a major cause of environmental degradation and the adverse impacts on natural resources. The native vegetation in watersheds plays an important role for the conservation of water resources, and seen the growing demand for water and concern about its future availability, studies on the relationship of how the forest conservation contributes to the maintenance of this resource is essential for understanding of ecosystem services and providing important information for decision-making and management of watersheds. Thus, this project aims to assess the influence of the conservation of forests in maintaining the water quality of watersheds, relating the land cover and conservation of native vegetation with water quality parameters. With the results of the research are expected to generate important information for decision-making and public policy formulation related to watershed management, including conservation and restoration of forests aimed at long-term availability of water resources.
