Abstract

This project results from the countless that emerge with the current inquiry of scientific iniciation FAPESP/ process nº 2012/17628-0, entitled "The cartographical silence of John Teixeira Albernaz I in the representations of the Brazilian coast", specifically to the central presuppositions of this work in progress. While gathering the cartographical production of John Teixeira mediated by the systematization of elements biographical and fountains cartographical-historical, there aim to rebuild the principal influences that based his works, as well as to recognize and to identify his peculiarities, of way to allow the safe continuity of the inquiry of scientific initiation, lessening its obscure and missing points.Lisbon presents of important heaps cultural-historically, joined in several institutions, which concentrate rare fountains and collections of maps what will guarantee the necessary subsidies to the subject. In the same way, the Centre of Geographical Studies of University of Lisbon concentrates a nucleus of investigations in History of the Cartography, able to supervise and to improve questions of method what hover around Historical cartography. It is waited, finally, to promote new inquiries and interpretations in the field of the Cartography Historical Luso-Brazilian, an area of study little dedicated in the current view of the courses of Geography of the universities of Sao Paulo.
