Abstract

The most patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) shows unilateral motor impairment. However, the motor control related to asymmetry on walking and postural control is not well known. The general aim of this study will be to analyze the asymmetry on walking, with and without environmental demands, and posture, according to the effect of medication, of the patients with PD in early and moderate stages of the disease. To answer the questions of the project, two studies will be developed, which will address the asymmetry on walking with and without auditory cue and postural control in different static positions. Thirty patients with PD, who will be to distribute in two groups according to stage of the disease, and 15 neurologically healthy individuals will participate in the study. The participants will perform clinical evaluation: stage of the disease, PD degree of involvement, and cognitive conditions; motor evaluation: coordination, strength and range of motion; walking evaluation: it will be assessed spatiotemporal and kinetic parameters, analyzing the asymmetry between the sides during the tasks; posture evaluation: it will be evaluated postural control in bipedal support, tandem position, and unipedal support, comparing the asymmetry between the limbs. The PD patients will perform the evaluations in "ON" and "OFF" state of the medication. The clinical data will be compared using nonparametric tests. The data related to motor tests, walking and postural parameters will be compared through MANOVAs according independent variables of the study.
