Abstract

This project, which is linked to a larger project (Temático FAPESP "The Portuguese Language in Time and Space: Language Contact, Grammars in Competition and Parametric Change "), focuses on the description/analysis of Wh-constructions in the subvariety of Portuguese spoken by students of undergraduate studies in Cape Verde, here identified as 'Capeverdean Academic Portuguese Academic' - CAP. The CAP has as substrate the Capeverdean Creole language - CCV. The Wh-constructions to be focused in this study are the direct interrogative-Wh questions, the relative clauses and the cleft constructions in intersection with the relative constructions. In the study of these constructions, we adopt the model of the theory of syntactic derivation by phases, especially as seen in Chomsky (2001), (2005), (2007) (in press). (AU)
