Abstract

The literature points to the importance of teacher-student interaction in the learning process and social development of the student and the role of the social skills and the educative social skills of the teacher for the quality of this interaction. However, despite this observed relation was not found studies that directly relate the influence of the social skills of the teacher on the social behavior of the student, in particular the aggressive behavior, which is important to target effective interventions with teachers. This longitudinal study aims to determine the relationship between the social skills of the teacher and the frequency of aggressive behaviors and social skills of their students. In the first stage, participants will be all elementary school teachers of 3rd and 4th grades of two state schools that accept to participate. Teachers will respond to the Social Skills Inventory (IHS-Del-Prette) and the Educative Social Skills Inventory (IHSE-Del-Prette). Three teachers with a high score of social skills and three with low scores of social skills will be selected. Also will participate in the study, if parents permit, students of these teachers selected, they will respond to the Peer Aggressive and Reactive Behaviors Questionnaire (PARB-Q) and to the Social Skills Rating System (SSRS-BR). After six months of the first stage, the instruments will be applied again with all participants. Comparisons will be made between the data obtained in the first and second stages of the study regarding the frequency of aggressive behavior and social skills of the students in the two moments and regarding possible changes in the repertoire of teachers. The results will be analyzed using appropriate statistical tests. (AU)
