Abstract

Human teeth are often used in dental research for conducting studies in vitro and in situ. Since are difficult to obtain human teeth, studies has been development for substitute this substrate. However, literature presents gaps in knowledge related to the dentinal substrate of human and bovine primary teeth morphology. The aim of this study is to evaluate the structural and morphological differences in human and bovine teeth root canal. The root canal of primary teeth will be selected according to the following groups (n=10): (A) central incisor maxillary roots of human primary teeth (B) palatine molar maxillary roots of human primary teeth and (C) incisor roots of bovine primary teeth. The roots will be sectioned in the vestibular-lingual direction, polished with 400- and 800- grit Sic papers to obtain a plane surface and will be delimitated in cervical, middle and apical thirds. Then, the specimens will be analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) to calculate the number of dentin tubules (per mm2) and to measure the dentin tubule diameter using Image J 1.45 software. The results will be submitted to appropriate statistical tests considering the studied factors and statistical significance level of 5%. (AU)
