Abstract

Herbal medicines have been grown due to allopathic medicines high cost, the low side effects incidence and ineffectiveness of some synthetic products. Moreover, cosmetics products consumption have been increasing in Brazil, both resulting from awareness of people, as for sun protevtion and acne treatment, and from improves the skin appearance, especially located on the face, as rosacea. Our group contain a patent (INPI: PI018120015848) which is plant extracts and mesoporous silica nanoparticle for carrying of active substances through the skin. More specifically, the nanoparticle composition is Stryphnodendron barbatiman (Barbatimão) and Schinus terebinthifolius Raddi (Aroeira) extracts as active substances and mesoporous silica nanoparticles as carriers. As know this extract plant have healing, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antiallergic activities so is extremely important to evaluate the cytotoxicity of this composition on the skin, in addition to determination the characteristics that affect the skin cells for future directions of composition, therefore in vitro experiments will be the starting. Therefore, the project aims to evaluate the effect of the Barbatimão and Aroeira nanoparticle in cells present in the skin, such as keratinocytes, and keratinocytes cell line on exposure to Propionibacterium acnes, a facultative anaerobic gram-positive bacterium that induction and maintenance of inflammation acne.
