Abstract

The karyotype in domestic animals is a tool used to evaluate animals with clinical abnormalities and / or a history of infertility. From the knowledge of the karyotype of these animals, large number of cytogenetic abnormalities associated with low or absent gonads have been described in the literature. One of the most common changes reported is the Robertsonian translocation or centric fusion. This is characterized by the union of two acrocentric chromosomes morphology, forming a new metacentric chromosome morphology or submetacentric leading to reduction in the number of chromosomes characteristic of the species involved. Many of these changes also may not cause a change in the phenotype occurs in many cases, the spread of these rearrangements. This research aims at the characterization and identification of the chromosomes involved in a Robertsonian translocation in a dog breed Rhodesia and thus add to the few data available in the literature for this species.
