The breast cancer in women awakes feelings of depreciation, anger, depression, guilt and fear. The study aims to understand the significance of breast cancer for young women, their consequences and expectations for these women. This is a descriptive study with a qualitative approach, to be held at the Mastology Clinic Hospital of the Faculty of Medicine of Ribeirão Preto, University of São Paulo and the Center for Teaching, Research and Rehabilitation Assistance in mastectomy, the Nursing School of Ribeirão Preto / USP. The number of participants is not predetermined, and interviews will be finalized at the time the empirical data make possible the understanding of the phenomenon. Studies of young women with breast cancer are still scarce and we believe that identifying the needs and expectations presented by these women may contribute to an effective and humane care for them, spread the knowledge to other productions of healthcare, provide subsidies for other crops scientific and alert to the importance of early detection of the disease, especially in young women.
