Abstract

This research project undergraduate research focuses on the study of new forms of consumption, taking as reference the joints between the lower and upper circuits of the urban economy (Santos, 2008), in order to assess the extent to which such relationships redefine the spatial practices of consumers in two middle-sized cities: Presidente Prudente (SP) and Londrina (PR).It is linked to the thematic project, supported by FAPESP, titled "Logical contemporary economic and spatial practices: middle-sized cities and consumption" (No. 2011/20155-3), which has empirically based the two cities mentioned above and more other four - Marília , Ribeirão Preto, São Carlos, São José do Rio Preto - all these in the State of São Paulo.The proposed study through scientific initiation of this project, it fits, so a larger project, whose goals are tied to understanding the relationship between urban restructuring (changing roles of cities in interurban division of labor) and restructuring of the city (logical changes in location of economic and social uses of urban space) (SPOSITO, 2007).In the case of this proposed scientific initiation, the focus is on the areas of trade, as we call popular, which are organized spatially, as camelódromos and are located in the center of the two main cities in the analysis.
