Abstract

This project proposes to conduct a study on the establishment of Portuguese Literature in Brazil as a teaching area and its establishment as an autonomous area of research in the history of Brazilian universities, through the investigation of its forms, tools and vehicles of expression, documentation and dissemination, such as education programs, theses and dissertations, research centers and associations formed, specialized academic journals and congresses realized. For this study, we chose a geographical and temporal cut. Based on the assumption that the first Language and Literature courses in Brazil emerged in the states of São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Minas Gerais, this project will seek to investigate the process of formation of Portuguese Literature in Brazilian universities primarily in the geographic region of the country that encompasses such states, the southeast. From this, the research process will consist of steps in order to approach the existence of this discipline in the courses of the public universities in their different historical moments. The project includes the compilation and centralization of information and documents that might reveal the historical path of incorporation of Portuguese Literature as a discipline and area of academic research.
