Abstract

Given its recent entry, from the mid-1980s, and especially its rapid expansion in urban and peri-sized cities in Brazil, this research study will include shopping malls, an element that has marked its strong presence in structures space.Therefore, this study will focus on the characterization and analysis of the cities of Presidente Prudente, Marilia, Sao Jose do Rio Preto, Sao Carlos, Ribeirão Preto and Londrina, these cities than in its urban structure present the mall as an element with greater or lesser extent, reinforces the dynamic (re) definition of centralities.The locational strategies of the developers responsible for these developments will be a major focus of this research is to assess to what extent and in what ways, they diminish the importance of the main center, reinforcing the establishment of new centers and the relationship with the medium-sized cities small in their regions of influence, when its residents are attending these spaces of consumption of goods and services.Thus, treating the network scales and the city, we can evaluate to what extent there are urban restructuring and restructuring of medium-sized cities studied. The focus will be on the role of consumption as key to understanding the new relationships between space and time in cities.
