Abstract The main purpose of this research is to realize a study about A Cigarra (1914-1975) magazine segments driven to its feminine reader/consumer public. For this, try to comprehend this variety illustrated magazine trajectory, launched in 1914 in São Paulo by the journalist Gelásio Pimenta and, by the beginning of 1930s, acquired by Assis Chateaubriand. That, many times ignored by scholars who worked with A Cigarra, caused a series of changes in its structure, offering conditions to its circulation until mid 1970, when a financial crisis shot down the Diários Associados. The dissertation focus on works done by the illustrator and costume designer Alceu Penna and by the journalists Elza Marzullo and Helena Ferraz de Abreu, between the 1940s and 1950s, when their works were published in the segments specially aimed to the magazine readers. By the A Cigarra and others research sources (the weekly magazine O Cruzeiro and journals), we sought to problematize the main normative and references widespread by the press at the time, related to the duties and places of women in society and, in a particular way, the domestic space. It was intended, also, to comprehend the established, and so diffused by the media, relations between body, fashion (vestment) and women, especially those who belong to middle and high classes of Brazilian society.
