Abstract

This project will be developed within the FAPESP Thematic Project 2011/07342- 9 "The transatlantic circulation of printed texts - the globalization of culture in the nineteenth century", coordinate by Professor Márcia Azevedo de Abreu, in wich Professor Lúcia Granja is associate researcher. In this work, the student will work directly with the material acquired by the Thematic Project (periodicals of the nineteenth century) and will create an index of the types of texts (sections of newspapers) as will a overview of each section found in the newspaper whose images were acquired by the Project, the Jornal do Commercio (1827-1835, 1854-1865), the Diário do Rio de Janeiro (1821-1878), and the Correio Mercantil (1848-1868). The main goal is to make this data available to all the Project researchers. However, as this is the second Scientific Initiation Project of the candidate, on this occasion the previous Scientific Initiation research will be continued with a study of the poetics of newspapers through the description and analysis of the Jornal do Commercio's sections between 1836 and 1853.
