Abstract

The project deals with the production and distribution of Roman oil lamps in the Orbis Romanorum during II and III centuries CE by means of thin-section analysis and comparative research, in order to identify workshops in the Levant. These will be compared with modes of production and distribution of Roman oil lamps of North African workshops, against their social and economical implications. The comparative research seeks to link relations of continuity, discontinuity and change of style and technology systems and data to foster the understanding of co-constitution of space and cultural identity of social groups that used these artifacts.
