Abstract

The preservation of wild species in Brazil is based on knowledge, distribution, behavior (in the natural environment and in captivity) and with all this there is a great importance in the reproductive description of the species always seeking to perpetuate. This proposal will focus on detailing the uterine reproductive whole, related to the process of placentation, as well as the evolution of the mammalian phylogenetic position, describing the placenta morphology, placental barrier in delimitation of phylogenetic evolution of this organ in Coendou prehensilis species. The Coendou prehensilis, popularly called hedgehog or porcupine clerk, is a herbivorous rodent that lives usually in trees of tropical forests from Mexico to South America, is a mammal that can weigh 2-4 kg and measuring 30-60 cm long. The popular names "porcupine" and "hedgehog" were given because these animals has the body covered with short and extremely sharp thorns being yellowish or whitish, along the pelage giving protection from predators. It will be used dead animals (natural causes or accidental) from zoos, reserves and Ranger, these animals, properly regulated by IBAMA. It will use macroscopic techniques, light microscopy, immunohistochemistry, scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy in order to study in detail the entire uterus and its placenta. As a structural analysis result of the material we hope to sort the Coendou prehensilis placenta, improving data on reproductive aspects of this species, other collaborating on future research, and generating a comparative basis for South American mammals and few similar studies in our territory.
