Abstract

The scrap tires are those that have no further use after a certain period of use. If these wastes are burned in the open, the gases emitted as carbon and sulfur contaminate the atmosphere, and if they are left in rivers, lakes or land, cause the proliferation of vectors and rodents, offering risks to public health. Therefore, it's necessary to reinsert the tires without usefulness to the production processes, reducing quantities of raw materials and minimizing environmental impacts caused by the irregular disposal. The viable types of disposal for this waste are recycling, asphalt paving and fuel in the cement industry. These alternatives are made possible by the existence of reverse logistics. A proper diagnosis of scrap tires facilitates and enables the realization of this process. Thus, this paper aims to carry out a diagnosis of scrap tires in the municipality of Presidente Prudente - SP. The diagnosis will include literature review; identification of the most significant generators of scrap tires; questionnaires to assess the steps management of scrap tires; identifying of the irregular disposal areas of scrap tires; check the recycling center infrastructure and the allocation given to the collected tires; establishment of guidelines for the formulation and implementation of the Integrated Management Plan for Solid Waste Tyres, among others. From this study, it is expected to boost stocks with the local population for improvement of environmental quality, social and economic, related to this type of solid waste. (AU)
