Abstract

In the United States, instead of actual policies of commodification of teacher education, hyper-rationality and increased accountability, and also the growth of non-university program providers, the University of Washington`s Teacher Education Program defends the partnership between school, university and community to more closely connected campus courses and field experience in university-based pre-service teacher education. This partnership goals to prepare teachers to work for greater justice within schools and in the broader society. In this context, it is proposed this internship and research project at the U.S. which aims to describe, comprehend, and discuss the partnership between school, university and community at the University of Washington's Teacher Education Program in order to identify the legal and institutional frameworks that enable and regulate this partnership. Based on the identification of these elements, we expect to discuss the relationship between theory and practice that constitute the relationship between these three bases of teacher education. For this research, some elements of analyses can be pointed, such as: partnership between school, university and community in teacher education; action research as methodological way to teacher education; relationship between theory and practice in teacher education; and teacher education for social justice. For the development of this project it is used the qualitative approach as a methodology and the data will be select by documental analysis of the elements that guide Washington University's Teacher Education Program at, including its pedagogical project and legal documents that determine its organization, and also those related to schools and community partners; and semi-structured interview with Prof. Ken Zeichner, coordinator of the Teacher Education Program and director of the College of Education at the University of Washington. It is expected to prospect elements to discuss the partnership between school, university and community in teacher education at a high level course in order to use these elements as a starting point to reflect about the partnership of these institutions at PIBID and at teacher education in Brazil.
