Abstract The aim of this PhD project is the comparative study of five confessionals Jesuit-Tupi applied in missionary regions of Grão-Pará and Maranhão and Brazil between the sixteenth and eighteenth centuries, with the overall objective of presenting models of Catholic confession desired in each one of centuries, considering the social circumstances of penitents and confessors, the available models apply to the sacrament, sometimes printed, sometimes manuscripts and the contexts in which they developed their Jesuit missions. We assumed that the Jesuits, even though they had a purpose of universal evangelization, had to adapt to different realities presented by the speakers and natives by temporal and physical spaces where the missionary occurred. The methodology will be that already drawn by the Italian School of History of Religions and the Sociolinguistics. | |
