Abstract The object of the present research is the new conceptualization of Realism emerged in the late '90s and early twenty-first century for the Arts, in general, and in Literature particularly.According to some authors, such as Hal Foster and Karl Schollhamer, Realism, as an aesthetic trend, reemerges from an artistic work which uses resources extracted from speeches of the spectacle (such as TV shows) to cause certain effects on their viewers and real affections such as shock or trauma.It happens because, as stated by Guy Debord (2012), what man contemplates in the spectacle is one activity that was subtracted from him/her. Its essence has been converted into something alien to itself, thus making it a being in a state of indifference. Against this background, the new realistic literature manages this question in order to problematize it, tensing the fictional discourse.Another issue to be investigated is the impact that the discourse of the spectacle has transposed in the contemporary literature due to the reader. This is because, another feature of this discourse, according to Debord, is the individual's loss of its real referents, external to media. In other words, one that it is exposed to the spectacle speech has a tendency to lose track of time and space (since everything is within reach of the here and now). Our goal is to investigate how this reader relates to the literature which aims to present such losses, through the reading and the analysis of the theory on the 'reader-spectator' in this new realistic scene.In a third moment of this research, the two points mentioned (Realism and the reader) will serve as a basis for the analysis of two literary works published in 2009 by Argentinean authors: "Realidad", Sergio Bizzio and "Bajo este sol tremendo", Carlos Busqued. These novels were chosen because, besides questioning the ideas above with sharpness (the boundaries between reality and fiction, and the reader as a spectator), draw attention to a carefully crafted narrative, in both style and plot, from the beginning until the end of the work. | |
