Abstract

This research aims to conduct a study on the crisis of the action in contemporary theater, from issues raised by performance art. We chose the analysis of a specific aspect of the work of the German artist Joseph Beuys - their "aktionen" [1]. We intend to analyze their actions, as a field in which it investigates important elements for rethinking the creative process of artists between the areas of theater and performance art in relation to the construction of an expanded action that might go beyond the field of art. The notion of action challenged here is based on a kind of mimetic representation of reality, usually associated with the dramatic theater. In this sense, the research will use the approximation between theater and artistic practices that aspire to experience the "real" as the performance art. Amongst others, Josette Feral, Ericka Fischer-Lichte, Silvia Fernandes, Michael Kirby, will be some of the used references. This is a study that brings together the area of performance art and the area of theater, based on the study of the notion of action. We also plan to bring elements to rethink the creative process of the actor / performer and the construction of actions in the scene. Our attempt is to examine more specifically how new theatrical-performing forms seek alternative ways of dealing with the representation and action.
