Abstract

The purpose of this PhD project is to study theater experiences in order to recognize and analyze the impacts of the "post-medium condition" on the constitution of the statutes body in the contemporary scene. In this context, the logic of fragmentation and simultaneity of information and the technologic communication era has contaminated the theater. The hypothesis is that from the intensification of flows between life online and offline at the turn of the millennium emerges an inflection point that affects the organization of life and the organization of the scene. Their impacts cut across different media and comprise performative traces able to produce new representations of the body, making irrelevant the abyssal lines that separate artistic genres and cultures. The theoretical context of the thesis is based on the above mentioned concept of post-medium condition proposed by Rosalind Krauss (2000); the notion of reality effect analyzed by Joel Black (2002); the corpomidia theory formulated by Helena Katz and Christine Greiner (2005) , and some specific studies on theater and performativity (Sánchez, 2012; Fernandes, 2010 and Uchino, 2008). The research corpus is composed by two Japanese groups (Chelfitsch and Yubiwa Hotel) and two Brazilian groups (Teatro da Vertigem and [ph2]: state theater). The expected result is to collaborate with a network of discussions to rethink the articulations between art, life and different media systems.
