Abstract

This project aims at presenting the state of the Knowledge in Piano Performance research produced in the graduate Music courses, in South and Southeast of Brazil. The state of the Knowledge is a kind of research which purpose is that of mapping some particular academic production in order to explore its major issues and its theoretical and methodological trends, which previously laid the ground for researchers.Since the implementation of the first graduate programs in Music, occurred in the 80s, all the production related to piano performance has shown quantitative and qualitative growth. Intending to contribute to the comprehension of some aspects that compose the music performance field and focusing on the instrumentalist musician. This project is relevant nowadays due to the current discussions regarding the field in the brazilian academic milieu. It is, thus, justified by the relevance of the subject and the possibility of serving futures studies.The principal object of study in this project consists of the set of theses and dissertations about Piano Performance. Through access to databases of public universities and the CAPES Bank of Theses and dissertations, 94 productions were located, related to Piano Performance, between 2007-2012.Keywords: State of the Knowledge, Piano Performance Research, Methodology of Music Research
