Lipid profile and oxidative stress in heart protection induced diabetic hyperglycemia: reviews after myocardial infarction

Recent results from our group showed in diabetic rats subjected to myocardial infarction (MI) reduced mortality from 15 to 30 days after coronary occlusion than normoglycemic animals undergoing the same procedure. After 90 days, the mortality is the same in both groups, suggesting that cardioprotection in these animals should occur in the early period after ischemia. Analyzing this "window of cardioprotection" Our group recently published a study in diabetic rats with MI, which demonstrated a reduction in infarct size, the expression of proinflammatory cytokines, activation of apoptosis, increased expression of glucose transporter type 1 (Glut-1) and cell survival factors, besides, decreased fibrosis, resulting in improved cardiac function in these animals. In this scenario arises the hypothesis that the functional improvement and its molecular changes observed in these animals could be related to the increased use of energy substrates. Thus, aim of this project is to evaluate the effects of diabetic hyperglycemia on lipid profile and oxidative after myocardial infarction. Thus it will be possible to analyze the effect of metabolic changes induced diabetic hyperglycemia after ischemia could contribute to explain the favorable results already reported by our group. To this will be evaluated in Wistar rats with experimental diabetes by streptozotocin and myocardial infarction (MI) by permanent ligation of the left coronary artery (accompanied by 15 days of IM and 30 days of diabetes at the end of the protocol): profile evaluation oxidative and lipid in plasma and cardiac left ventricle.
