Abstract

Introduction: Some studies show that functional or organofunctional dysphonia can be related to changes in auditory processing. There are tests that offer us the possibility to measure and attempt to relate vocal intensity and frequency parameters with traces of the auditory processing. In this way, in the clinic, the assessment of vocal extension profile could help identify difficulties in dysphonic patients that could be related to changes in auditory processing, so, with the differential diagnosis. Objective: Check the association between the tests of auditory processing and vocal extension profile in dysphonic individuals and without vocal changes. Methodology: After the approval of the Committee of ethics in research with Human - FOB/USP should participate in this study, 60 individuals of both gender between the ages of 18 to 50 years, being subdivided into two groups: Group 1 (Dysphonic Group) and Group 2 (no Dysphonic Group). After the signing of the informed consent, individuals will go through an interview, complete audiological field evaluation, otorhinolaryngologic evaluation, vocal evaluation (voice record analysis; completion of the vocal extension profile) and auditory-processing evaluation through Frequency Standard and Duration Pattern tests, Compressed speech sound test and Non-Verbal Dichotic test (NVDT). Analysis of results: The results will be submitted to the statistical treatment by applying Chi-square test.
