Abstract

The presence of tinnitus and the difficulty in speech recognition may generate significant changes in an individual's communication and, therefore, in the quality of life. Thus, the aim of this study is to assess the degree of inconvenience of tinnitus using the Portuguese version of Tinnitus Handicap Inventory (THI) and correlate with the speech perception of individuals by testing the Brazilian version of Hearing in Noise Test (HINT) before and after adaptation of Individual Sound Amplification Device (Hearing Aid). To this end, this study will be developed in Speech Language Pathology and Audiology Clinic of Bauru School of Dentistry of University of Sao Paulo and 30 individuals will be selected with inclusion criteria as following: diagnosis of bilateral moderate sensorineural hearing loss, ages between 18 and 50 years old, continuous bilateral tinnitus complaint at least for 6 months, no prior experience with hearing aid and enrolled in Speech Language Pathology and Audiology Clinic of Bauru School of Dentistry. The Individuals will respond to anamnesis, THI for evaluation of inconvenience from the presence of tinnitus and will be submitted to HINT. After this assessment, the individuals will be adapted with hearing aid. After three months of continuous use of hearing aid, the 30 individuals will perform again the evaluations regarding THI and HINT. For the illustration of the results, appropriate statistical tests will be used.
