Abstract

Since the beginnings of humanity, the wáter bodies offers several benefits to society. However, the population increase and acceleration of the economy, and the consequent increase in demand of industry and agriculture, increased the multiple uses of water, resulting in impacts of various kinds. In this context, the concerns and the need to safeguard water resources should be consolidated in Brazilian society, and increasingly refined tools to assess the quality of the systems are constantly being developed. Parasites of fish are components of aquatic ecosystems highly sensitive to anthropogenic environmental actions which alter the composition and structure of parasite communities. Thus, these organisms can be used as indicators in environmental studies and the conservation of aquatic ecosystems. The objective of this project will be to characterize the component helminth parasite communities of Leporinus Frideric (Characiformes, Anostomidae) from different environments impacted by the Jurumirim Reservoir, Upper Paranapanema River, SP, Brazil. Thus, this study will provide information on safe and appropriate measures for monitoring, management, and conservation of these environments impacted. (AU)
