Abstract This research aims to develop the project entitled "Drugs in Criminology and Criminal Justice of Canada" at the University of Ottawa, in the Department of Criminology Faculty of Social Sciences. The objective is to achieve a deeper theoretical and methodological framework of the doctoral research conducted in the Department of Sociology at the University of São Paulo/FAPESP titled "Drug Trafficking and Administration of Criminal Justice: an analysis of cases in the city of São Paulo" -through the systematization and analysis of a variety of contemporary international literature produced on the topic of drugs, punishment and criminal justice, with an emphasis on criminological literature produced in Canada, which is a center of excellence in this area of social sciences. The project has three main goals: i) undertake a theoretical reflection based on Canadian criminological research on the theme of drug laws and criminal justice; ii) systematize a significant part of contemporary English language literature that analyzes the results and models of alternative public policies in countries where the theme of use and sale of drugs is current; iii) analyze the present drug policy in Canada, as well as the initiatives of recent changes debated in Ottawa Parliament.
