Abstract

The tendinitis of the superficial digital flexor tendon (SDFT) is one of the most common injuries in athletic horses in high performance. The SDFT tendinitis leads to significant morbidity and large economic impact. Nowadays, with the advances of biotechnology, the regenerative medicine has increased significantly over the time. Several types of treatment described in the literature have contributed significantly on recovery of tendon morphophysiology. The literature also reports promising research that uses autologous cell therapy in equine tendinitis, where our research group has contributed an important role. This study aims to evaluate local application of allogeneic bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells, which will be implanted in the forelimb of horses with experimental tendinitis, compared with autologous implant. The animals will be evaluated by clinical and ultrasonographic examinations up to the biopsy date, which will be performed 10 and 150 days after treatment with autologous and allogeneic mesenchymal stem cells (MSC). The biopsy aims to evaluate the expression inflammation markers around the implant local in the equine limbs and the efficacy of treatment. These animals will be handled according to the groups: Group 1 - under experimental tendinitis and treated with allogeneic cells; Group 2 - under the experimental tendinitis and treated with autologous cells; Group 3 - under the experimental tendinitis without treatment and Group 4, no experimental lesion and treated with allogeneic cells.
