Periodontal status and quality of life in grade III obese women in menopause

Abstract

Obesity can be considered a risk factor for the development of periodontal disease in postmenopausal women and there is a greater bone loss due to hormonal changes and may be a synergism between menopausal obesity and progression of periodontal disease. This study aims to determine the periodontal status and quality of life in grade III obese women in menopause. Besides assessing the volume of salivary flow of these women. The sample consists of 60 women that were divided into two groups: G1: 30 grade III obese (IMCe40 kg/m2), G2: women with normal weight (BMI between 18.5 and 24.9 kg/m2) and / or overweight (BMI 25 to 29.9 kg/m2). Periodontal status will be assessed by probing depth of the entire mouth, bleeding on probing, calculus and clinical attachment level. The stimulated salivary flow is calculated as milliliters / minute (ml / min). Will apply the OHIP-14 questionnaire to assess the impact of oral health on quality of life of menopausal women. The statistical analysis will test "t" test and the chi-square will be adopted for the comparison between groups, and correlation coefficient of Pearson and Spearman for changes in quality of life. This study will be evaluating the periodontal status and its relationship with hormonal changes in grade III obese women in menopause.
