Abstract

Little is known on the physical mechanisms that drive South Atlantic Central Water (SACW) intrusions onto the continental shelf in the Espírito Santo Basin (18°S-22°S). In this research project, we propose an investigation of the dynamical roles of the wind stress, the Brazil Current and its mesoscale eddy field as drivers of the SACW intrusions. Its primary aim is to examine the effects of each of these forcings, both individually and in concert. An approach based on semi-idealized, tridimensional, process-oriented numerical experiments is proposed. (AU)
